I don’t dabble in horror often .. but this was creepy and I loved it.

From an author “destined to become a titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), a haunting debut—soon to be a Netflix original movie—about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit. (Goodreads Blurb)
To give context, I read this book in the dark, in the middle of the night while I was up, dealing with my crying infant. I sit in a chair that faces the hallway and a door that is open just so where I can’t see if a person is behind the door, but a person could definitely be behind the door.
Scene set, I was freaked out most of the time reading this book. Ha
It was creepy. First 80% I had no idea what was going on and there was a lot of mystery. I didn’t know if this book was going the supernatural route or a psychological route or just a straight up evil murdering real life serial killer psychopath. That buildup was very exciting.
I will say the last 20% when the reveal is happening all of the horror melted away. I didn’t like the way the author took the story in the end.
Obviously from my rating I don’t feel as if that makes the book bad in anyway.
I felt that some of the providing outside documentation of Internet articles or scientific journals(?) or whatever supporting pieces that were filtered throughout the book in the end were silly. I found myself sometimes skipping some of them because they felt useless and filler pages.
Talking about just the first 70 or 80% of this book, I would recommend it to all my friends who love horror.
