Start off straight away and say, a big reason for my rating is the way the title is misleading. To me, this story isn’t about the roles ‘Postmistresses’ played in the war in Paris. One could say it isn’t even based in Paris.
This is a love story between artists, prisoners of war and an American silently behind the scenes funding it all.
This story felt dry with an emphasis on shock factor on the nude photos.
What is extra disappointing is this story was based on a real person. Reading about the real life Chicago heiress, Mary Jayne Gold, that this book was based off of was the cherry on top of the feeling of ‘being let down’ by this story. Mary Jayne sounded SO COOL and this book barely scratched the surface. Didn’t really do her, or her story, justice.
What was with this cool opening scene? Where were more flying scenes? Why was the white flying scarf constantly mentioned, but never really added to the story. Only to draw the reader in only to disappoint them in the end (well not just the end… the middle too)?
Overall, not impressed with this story.
