Can this even be considered a book?
This book was frustrating. It is ‘endorsed’ by Stephen King .. so you immediately think – well this can’t be that bad. The first book was co-written by King and Chizmar. King started it, couldn’t finish and then let Chizmar work through it. The second book is written completely by Chizmar and that was the mistake.
THIS BOOK DOESN’T MAKE SENSE.
I loved Gwendy’s character. You can see her character through what King created .. the parts you don’t like are the parts that Chizmar embellished. What the book should be about is a little magic button box helping Gwendy solve the mystery of children being kidnapped in her home town. What the book is actually about Gwendy (thoughts of Chizmar) and how angry she(he) is at the current state of the political world. Oh and a magic box showed up again.
Who cares that Gwendy is a congresswomen… the only thing that adds to the story is she gets hot chocolate in line sooner than others due to her status. Who cares about this magic box? It didn’t advance the story anywhere. Who cares what the president is doing – president has no effect on the little girls being taken from their home and the sheriff department looking for a break in the case. Her having an ‘episode’ to help solve the case **trying to avoid spoilers here** seemed like a cop-out for an author that couldn’t figure out how to end the story.
The hidden political agenda in this book made me SO mad, I wish I could give it zero stars. I love books to escape the world… if I wanted to read something like this I could just go onto social media. Don’t trick people with your cute magic button box only to throw politics in our faces. It just felt like a dirty trick.
