Alice Storm hasn’t been welcome at her family’s magnificent private island off the Rhode Island coast in five years—not since she was cast out and built her life beyond the Storm name, influence, and untold billions. But the shocking death of her larger-than-life father changes everything.
A whole week on Storm Island is no easy task for Alice. It will be a miracle if Alice manages to escape unscathed.
Absolutely five star novel.
Let me set the scene for you. I picked up a different physical book to read from my TBR pile. I sat down to add it to my goodreads and begin reading the book. While doing so, stumbled upon a comment of “‘These Summer Storms’ was an easy five star read”. I thought to myself, ‘hey I have that on my TBR floor pile.’ I immediately put down the initial book I was planning to read, ran upstairs, took off the book cover, and sat down to started reading ‘These Summer Storms’.
I’m a fast reader, so I was a little frustrated at first. My eyes kept stumbling over the words. I found myself constantly going back to the beginning of her short paragraphs to reread.
THESE are the type of books that I search for.
I think it helps that it is predominantly a dialogue driven story. I love dialogue. I especially love quick witted dialogue. I love a touch of cheesy dialogue. So I absolutely ate this up.
My opinion is you will either absolutely hate this book or you absolutely love it. I cannot believe that this book has a 3.8 rating on Goodreads. That seems crazy to me. I don’t even understand how anyone would dislike this book. Someone mentioned it could be a cheap knock off of “inheritance games.” I read that book, admittedly I can’t remember much of it. Yet, I found this so believable and fun. Yes it’s slightly over the top, but it’s not so over-the-top that you wouldn’t believe it?
I like that you never get a definitive opinion of who Franklin Storm is. Is he caring? Was this all a game? Was he doing this all just to bring his family together or tear them apart? It’ll leave you guessing the entire story.
I also really appreciate that we can talk about the rich. We can make fun of the rich. I enjoyed the way the author didn’t add a social stance (as some reviewers wanted her to). I mean, come on we’d all like a few more zeros in our bank account. And if we can’t have that we might as well be entertained by those who do.
Moral of the story is, I was absolutely entertained. I loved that I was forced to really read this book. I loved that I couldn’t speed read. I loved that I was giggling out loud at some of the jokes. Giggling at the absurdity of the family members. I would 100% recommend this to all my reader friends.
Let me know what you thought of the book in the comments below. Don’t be afraid to tear it apart in full detail – I really wish I understood those that disliked it! Ha
