The synopsis of this book describes it as the TikTok viral novel of friends to lovers, romantic, dark comedy. I would put this story in a young adult category right next to Twilight.
Listen, could I ever read Twilight again? Probably not. Yet, it’s a story that I remember fondly. I wouldn’t recommend Twilight to anyone and I don’t regret that I read it.
This is where I am with Butcher and Blackbird. It felt like the author googled what makes a young adult book ‘YA’. She then copy and pasted every topic and inserted it throughout the book.
I almost felt like an eighth grade boy. Some sense where I was supposed to be super grossed out and shocked that the author would write something so dark.
And then I was supposed to be all heated up with the next up-and-coming Grey’s book.
Yet the story just made me cringe overall. Cringe! But to be fair, I continued reading. I think that’s a very important point here. I don’t have a lot of positive things to say about this book but I will say I read it. I ate it up. I thought about these two stupid characters. And here we are writing this review.
In summary, I wouldn’t recommend. Hopefully I forget this wonderfully cringe novel soon. If it is not obvious from above, I will not be continuing on the series. Two serial killers that kill serial killers with all the darkness that comes with being a serial killer was a really great idea, just not executed to a level I was looking for.
