Ethan reluctantly returns to his family home 30 years later to help out his parents.
It should be an easy in and out and he can officially leave the past in the past.
Instead the past comes back to haunt him. He is reminded what happened years ago when his best friend disappeared and him the only witness.
What happened to Billy? Ethan might not have a choice to find out.
I proudly own every Riley Sager book. He gets his only little part of my shelf. Lately though, his books don’t hold as much value. …. Fingers crossed for the next one! (I say again after the last one…)
My ‘favorite’ thriller author isn’t hitting as hard as I wish lately. I picked this up knowing the reviews were not favorable but people ‘loved the 90s theme!’. I’m here to tell you, if you are picking it up just for a blast into the 90s, it’s not worth it.
Everything about this book is so ‘meh’. It’s not put together like an experienced author.
All the characters are lame. Unlikeable. Not realistic.
The plot is all over the place. I found myself flipping back pages thinking I missed something, because no way Sager introduced a plot hole.
Everything is tied together so loosely, characters introduced with no background so nothing is shocking. The big ‘twist’ that makes this thriller a ‘thrill’ was not shocking. Sure, I didn’t guess it… but really all the characters were available to be the ‘bad guy’ because there was no proper set up.
As the kids say, another ‘mid’ book from Sager. We are on a streak here, sorry to repeat myself, but fingers crossed for next year, next book release. Note to author (that he’ll never see ha): Riley, maybe take two years and really come out swinging! I’ll wait for another magical thriller like you were creating in the past.
