Emery’s life is turned upside down when her best friend is murdered, her boyfriend is blamed for it and suddenly disappears from this tight night, small community on an island called Saiorse.
She thought she left the past in the past but then August, her ex-boyfriend, comes back to the island.
Forced to face the past and discover what she thought happened vs what really happens.
Everyone’s dirty laundry is brought out in this murder mystery romance from Adrienne Young.
There is so much good here, but for me, it was poorly executed. There are multiple POVs to tell an overall dry story. Although we eventually find out what happened, what caused all these … scenarios … to occur … I still don’t get WHY? What was their motivation? Is it just control? (Trying to avoid spoilers, but if you know, you know)
This slow story only needed one POV. And maybe with a single point of view we would have developed the characters more (whether from August or Emery) and the reader could have really loved them. Both felt so depressed that I didn’t FEEL anything.
A book title with the word Spells involved needs to give me more spells. I need more magic. I need to know if this was real magic, fake magic, I need MORE. I expected more.
Finally, in regards to romance … I’m not asking for spice, but I am asking for more emotions when August comes back. The best part are the flashbacks. Which is great … but I needed more to make the resulting events that happened make sense to me.
Overall, an okay book. Expected a bit more. Wouldn’t recommend and will probably forget I even read this pretty soon.
