Unless you were living under a rock for the last 10… 20 years … you’ll know the name Harry Potter. Draco, excuse me, Tom, gives the fans a little more insight of what it was like in this whirlwind Harry Potter tornado in his ‘first chapter’ of his life story.
Who can judge a book written by someone about their own life? So for me, easy 5 stars. The reviews stating this wasn’t scandalous enough, was boring, wasn’t enough about Harry Potter, etc. Tom is more than just Draco from Harry Potter. Everyone’s life is more than ‘one’ thing. Even the most boring human beings are more complex, more layered than we give ourselves credit for.
As a Harry Potter fan, I was more focused on the books rather than the movies and all the actors that came with them. That being said, I’ve kept up.
I appreciate the background Tom gave on her personal life and family, even though I’ll admit, I was here for strictly the Harry Potter stories. Can’t complain because he tells you right in the title, Beyond the Wand.
If you are Harry Potter fan, you won’t be disappointed though. Tom gives praise for his fellow actors, he dedicates large portions/entire chapters for certain actors he was closer to. I ate up the chapter on Rickman.
He expands further, getting deep and hits on mental health. Shares the dirty details but also tries to give some wisdom of what he learned throughout. I really appreciate the insights, the vulnerabilities and all the fun stories that haven’t been made public yet from his time on set.
I’m not the biggest fan of audio books but having a person read their own autobiography is absolute gold. Tom’s little giggles, ‘hmphs’ and all his speaking mannerisms add so much to the story. ABSOLUTE treat.
