A detective’s past rule bending has come back to haunt her. In this twisted thriller from McAllister we are faced with a criminal that uses secrets as a way to bend their will and get the justice they deserve.
McAllister is making a name for herself where a reader knows a twist is coming … just where will she make the squeeze.
Just Another Missing Person was a fun thriller to make my way through. It wasn’t monumental, a book I’ll immediately run to all my friends saying, “Oh my God, you MUST read this.” I also don’t hate that I read it.
McAllister’s twists are a bit of a given. A reader knows in the beginning things might to be what they seem. Unfortunately for the reader, that means we may be a bit bored as we start. In the beginning it felt obvious, the pace was slow and I was slightly unengaged. I kept reading as I knew McAllister wouldn’t leave me hanging for long. The twist that happens 50%-ish through was wonderfully done and believable.
I personally struggled with the style of writing. This book felt like it could be something I could chew through, but my eyes stumbled as they went across the page. Not because the writing was complex by any means… there was just something about it. A very personal problem, but wanted to still make note for readers who read like me.
To summarize, not mad. Wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend, but also wouldn’t tell my reader friends to ‘not read’ if they mentioned it. Happy reading and let me know how this book stacks up in the comments below!
