A dueling POV timeline going from 1907 to present day, set in Gossamer Grove, Wisconsin. Two main characters seemingly unconnected yet all the signs point to they are.
Both trying to uncover the secrets of their town to hopefully save themselves from the upcoming disaster.
Hard book to describe as much as it was a messy mystery to try to figure out. At the beginning of this book I was very confused. There are a lot of moving pieces, a lot of unconnected stories being built. I wasn’t sure where to focus, what to hold on to.
Slowly, very slowly, the story started coming together. It took me well into the book to see what the author was trying to do. It was a loosely wound mystery that depending on how you look at it could be deemed clever or off the rails.
I did begin enjoying the book in the last half, so it bumped it to 3 stars in the end.
The book is a tad forgetful as, even now, I’m struggling to write this review and remember what happened in the story. I’m unsure how this got on my TBR. Maybe because it mentioned ‘Wisconsin’ and I’m a sucker for any Wisconsin-based story. Although I’ll warn my fellow Wisconsinites, this is made up and most likely not what you think it will be.
