Does this book even need an intro? I’ve been sitting on the hold list for MONTHS and finally received my copy from the library and dove right in.
A fantasy/romantasy novel filled with daggers, dragons and drama.
If you are looking for some ground breaking fantasy story you haven’t read before .. this won’t be it. If you love dragons, read it anyways.
Where do I sit with this one? Right away, I hate it because it’s trendy. I don’t know why this happens to me, but I hate read trendy books.

With these ratings, who am I to judge? What would be life without a little opinions, a little conversation, so here we go.
I will say, this is a formula fantasy book. Very predictable. Which upsets me because I had hope the author would go another way. Can’t the MC be just smart? Why does she have to have killer skills with daggers? Why can’t we just have a smart, weak character? GASP – boy from childhood vs dark, dreamy villain? GASP – her dragon. GASP – the lies. GASP – the spicy scenes.
To which I’d like to go on a slight rant. ENOUGH. Enough with the spicy scenes that would make a play boy writer blush. I don’t need to read it. There are plenty of books out there I could grab if I wanted to get all hot and heavy with my eye masks on, a cup of tea and a cozy blanket… but I’m not here for that. I wish authors would realize (I believe) majority of us fantasy nerds want a new-age Tolkien hero to shine through and guess what Tolkien never talks about? The size of a guy’s junk.
The most upsetting part, which is where I dropped it to 3 stars while reading is the author had a really good thing going on here. I haven’t read a fantasy book where dragons weren’t some kind of pets to humans. Which never made sense to me as dragons are the superior being and this book understood that. Yet, it was glossed over. We didn’t get deeper into dragon law. We never find out why dragons need or want to deal with humans. (Right?) Even during some slightly-epic fighting scenes we have to bring in the longing.
Overall, I read this faster than I expected. I got obsessed during some parts. Stayed up late because I couldn’t put the book down. It’s a good book. It tried to be different. From what I hear from book friends that the second book is epic and hopefully addresses any annoyances I had while reading Forth Wing.
