Listen for the Lie By: Amy Tintera

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A terrible accident left one girl dead and one girl with no memory of what happened. Found covered in blood Lucy knows she wouldn’t kill her best friend… right?

With no way to charge ‘caught red handed Lucy’, she thinks this is all in the past until a true crime podcaster starts digging around and making the case public (and trending) again.

As much as Lucy would like to keep the past in the past, there is part of her that would like to know what happened that night too. So she teams up with the famous podcaster, thanks to Grandma, to discover the truth… whatever that may be.

I read this in one day. And if my dog weren’t so needy, I probably could have read this in one sitting. This is only possible with ‘easy reading’ books. The story flowed. The need to keep turning pages to find out what happens next was there. I absolutely love when this happens.

I was presented this book that the narrator would be lying to me, to purposely mislead the reader. I disagree. The narrator geniually didn’t know what happened and I felt that was never hidden from the reader. The narrator wanted to discover the truth, along with the reader, which made it feel like we were on the same side.

Which brings me to the point of Lucy, the MC. As a reader, you have to like her. If you don’t like her spunk, her sarcasm or her personality… this book is going to be hard for you to read. In my opinion, I loved Lucy. I want to be friends with Lucy. I was rooting for Lucy.

I guessed this ‘who dun it’ about 40% in to the book, yet it didn’t make it any less thrilling. Although I felt I knew who ‘did it’, I was hoping the author would trick me in the end… Sometimes this annoys me, but I enjoyed myself so much while reading, it’s okay!

I can’t believe this is a debut. I don’t ‘believe’ in partial stars, but if you do this is a 4.5 star book for me. Great job Tintera and I am excited for the next one! I’d recommend this to all my reader friends.
