A self help book for WOMEN.
Honestly that’s all I got. I can’t even pretend to write a synopsis for this book without being a total snot.
I didn’t find this book unhelpful, but I found it offensive.
When it comes to self-help style books the reader needs to hear the truth. There will be a little bit of offense as you work through the thoughts like, no, that’s not me. Or I’m better than those helpless people. Or I don’t have problems like them. That wasn’t my largest problem with this book. My biggest problem was the takeaway of the solution is, you are just a women. My eyebrows raised every time I heard them state that our ‘human giving’ feeling, that only women have, is why we are struggling.
That is one, of I feel many, generalizations with this book. Men don’t have to deal with this because they aren’t women. Annoying. I’d actually say my husband is more selfless, more giving than I am. And my ‘selflessness’ is not why I’m burned out.
I could go on in length about all the ways this book annoyed me, but here is a short list: the stories at the beginning of the chapters. The generalization of gender (or lack of gender). The list of reasons why I’m hopeless, as a woman. The pressure of feeling like a victim.
I found value in maybe 10% of this book. Their big reveal (to save you time) is to move your body. Which, I agree with, congrats.
Overall, this is a 1 star book, but I finished it so on my scale they (I guess) earned that additional star. I am baffled how this book trended. Baffled it’s up for a reader’s choice. Baffled anyone was able to take away anything from this book. There are much better books out there, please, read one of those.
