Read in a matter of a few hours, it was THAT good.
Great book. So, so good. While reading you have a sense that you’ve seen a movie just like this and it easily plays in your head. The writing is easy to follow and you soon pick up the pattern of going back and forth between present day and the book her father wrote. I love the format of this book. I love that the font changes, I love that you have a book title page, from her father’s book, that made me go back to the front cover and check what I was actually reading.
I love the thrillers where you question if the author is meaning to present that ghosts are real or is there some human behind all the spooky encounters. I’ll let you discover that for yourself.
Sager is easily becoming one of my favorite authors. I love the way she writes and especially love these stories that pour out of her. Every one is unique and just as thrilling.
My only real criticism is I don’t like the book title. ‘Home Before Dark’ doesn’t really excite me like the fake book title from her father, ‘House of Horrors’. Weird things happened day time and night time. There was never really a theme of a parent saying, ‘go out and play but make sure you are home before dark.’
Either way, do yourself a favor and pick this book up.
