What was the point? Was there a point?
How do I feel about this book?
I’m not sure.
Ines, the main character, didn’t bother me as much as most reviewers. She didn’t give a care and most people’s opinions think she wasn’t ‘cool’ as the book was making her out to be. I think outsiders view people who don’t care as ‘cool’ because they aren’t them. We were inside the head of someone who felt actually empty and yes, it’s not ‘cool’ to care and her head showed us that. But if we were in the outside world just looking at her without her thoughts, we would probably think she’s cool too … her partying, hanging out as we were all studying and stressing out. I don’t know why, but I felt like addressing that.
The book was so wishy washy. What was the point? Was there a point? Did the reader need a point to be okay with the book?
I’m not sure the answers to those questions… (great review so far, huh?) … but I do know that the book lingered after I finished. I got to dive into a world where I didn’t know what anyone was talking about the whole time. I didn’t care/understand the art history, I didn’t understand plsam and I really didn’t understand the ending.
But .. the book lingered. That lingering is exactly why Thomas earned 5 stars from me.
