I’m not sure how I feel about this book, still. I didnt see the ending coming and not in a ‘wow that was good way ..’ .. the ending comes off as a ‘really? Are you sure? That’s stupid’ kinda way.
It felt like it came out of left field and I’m never a fan of that. I hate who-dun-its that at the end of the book the author just picks the least likely character and inserts-name-here.
I also don’t like being left with an open ended ending. Sometimes I get (although I still hate it) when author’s let the reader decide what happens in the end. But this book, that’s unacceptable. Not a fan.
Overall, the book is SUCH a slow burn it’s almost painful. So much tension. Which made me annoyed. The reason I rounded up the star though is because maybe that was the point. Keep is slow, keep building the tension and BAM hit them with the ending.
So if you are patient, you’ll love this book. If you need more to happen, more excitement, more hints to the ending … I’d skip this one.
This is my first Jane Harper book. I don’t think this book will stop me from picking up another one of her stories. I can tell she has something special here and I’m willing to give her another wander through her world.
