Warning, this is not a cute book about a library. (ha) Book lovers beware, this will not scratch your book loving itch.
This is a very thoughtfulbook though. I think I was expecting more of that Owen Wilson movie, Midnight in Paris. This is my fault for never really knowing what I should pick up and read.
Now this was a lovely book though. It just wasn’t what I was expecting. This book goes deep into the world of regrets and finding the meaning of life. The parallel universe was a little out there for me. I love a good sci-fi style book, but merging self help, sci-fi and getting way too deep for comfort… I think the author should have remove the ‘sci-fi’ portion. To me, this book you either LOVE or HATE. I really think you can’t have an in-between. Here I am wanting to give it 3 stars or 4 stars… but I can’t. I have to decide, right now, do I love this book or hate it?
When I decide to jump into one camp or the other, I have to jump into the ‘love’ pool.
Maybe the author scanned instagram and grabbed a few inspirational quotes to throw into every chapter. Maybe the author really believes the advice he was spitting .. in the end, this book, however corny as it was, made me dig deeper. Made me appreciate the life I already have and look around me for things I should be grateful for.
I agree with a few reviewers who said this book isn’t original. It’s not, I agree. We all have heard the stories of going back in time tot reflect on our past regrets. One could say ‘Christmas Carol’ did it first. What made this book interesting was the library of our lives, our decisions and the oh-so-famous ‘Book of Regrets’. The way Nora tried to take the easy way out at first. the way she had to dig deeper and how when she thought she was digging deeper, she still wasn’t.
So this book isn’t my favorite – but it was good. It did feel like a book ‘you must read before you die’ when it comes to these modern times. Wonderful job Matt.
