THE MAID BY NITA PROSE

,

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The Maid is something special. How to pinpoint what exactly that ‘special’ is will be impossible .. but here is my attempt through this review.
If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you’ll know that I HATE when there is no mystery. When author cannot give the reader that ‘wonder’ while reading. If every next step in the plot is so easily guessed, why read it?

At least that was my position until picking up this book. While Molly doesn’t know the difference between donut sugar powder and cocaine … the readers do. You might be rolling your eyes. How can the main character, Molly, not know? How stupid.
Well – you’d be wrong. That is what makes this book magical. That is what is special about this book. It’s Molly. It’s Molly’s voice, her actions, her thoughts and her witty ‘rules’ on how to exist in society.
Without the cleverly curated voice of Molly, this book would not be my favorite. There are issues with the plot, issues with the big final ‘twist’ at the end and a lot of statements the author wants to make about social issues. Again – normally all these things would bother the heck out of me. I know other reviewers picked up on it too.

Yet, in the end, I looked past all of it because the character of Molly was so well done and touched my heart SO much that it didn’t matter. Maybe because I have people like Molly in my life. Whatever the reason…
I would recommend this book. I would recommend you pick up this book and get to know “Molly the Maid” for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
