THE GLASS CASTLE BY: JEANNETTE WALLS

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I loved The Glass Castle. I loved how messed up it was and how we saw it through a child’s eyes. (Of course, I wouldn’t wish this kind of life on my worst enemy.) What really stood out was how unapologetic the writing was. This is a memoir that isn’t seeking pity. Jeanette just tells it like it is and that is something special now-a-days. She isn’t asking anything from us. Honestly. we are asking from her to give up this part of her life. Put it on paper for the world to judge. That’s brave.

What makes this book magical is the writing. It was beautifully written and even if you hated the character (real life people ha), you can no doubt appreciate the how well done Walls put together this book for all of us to read.
Sadly, I don’t think this is as a unique experience as people think.Maybe that’s why it’s so jarring for others. It took my friend until college to understand that your parent stealing from you and doing drugs in your dorm room wasn’t normal. I remember that conversation vividly. It’s quite interesting what people go through that  is behind closed doors. Situations happen and some don’t even know they should be upset by it. They just keep going on with life. Hungry? No food? Find some.

So yes, please read, absorb and find a place in your heart for The Glass Castle. I believe  this a modern classic.
