THE GIVER OF STARS BY: JOJO MOYES

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this book! Blown away that ‘Packhorse Librarians’ was a real thing … and can we bring them back? How cool.
It’s crazy the amount of emotion the author was able to pull from me. I found myself laughing out loud, crying or just yelling at people (characters) while reading. I was easily sucked in and felt like I knew the characters. I would disagree with others who felt the characters were one dimensional. I sometimes had a hard time deciphering who’s head/world I was in while reading … but that didn’t take anything away from the book for me. The characters each had a unique voice and came alive on the page. You didn’t have to like all of them, but they still each had their own complex personality.

I might be a little biased as I just happen to JUST be in Kentucky and unknowingly picked up this book about Kentucky – so as the author described scenery it was so easy to picture. I had no idea Kentucky was so beautiful.
There are comments about there being ‘too much’ drama – and again – I disagree. I thought there was an appropriate amount of drama. It kept the story going and makes the reader keep on reading. Life is complex and I think there is a lot more too it and the author did a good job keeping everything moving and clear.

And finally, the ‘plagiarism’. These books are about the same subject, not about the same characters and drama. It’s like saying every WWII woman spy book is the same. Or people who say that author’s rip off Agatha Christie with every murder novel. Let it go and enjoy the story. Which is what I did and I loved it.

**     Bonus for all the beautiful quotes from beautiful books at the beginning of each chapter.

Such a wonderful story and if you are a lover of books I don’t think you’ll find it hard to fall in love with this one.
