I can’t help myself and am wanting to write the review of ‘The Book of Cold Cases’ the morning after finishing the book.
I really should marinate with my thoughts on the but it was that good. My first time picking up a Simone St James book I kept waiting for the ‘twist’ where we found out the paranormal wasn’t real. I’ll admit, I found myself disappointed when I finished and realized the author wanted me to believe all the spooky happenings were real. I rolled my eyes a bit.
After thinking on it, I realized how dare I? Did I enjoy the book any less due to the lack of the realistic twist? Heck no. So learn from me and go into this story ready to be spooked and ready to enjoy it. I never prepare before diving into reading a book. I don’t even read the synopsis! For this book though, I prepared. I was prepared to be creeped out.
As you can see, I really enjoyed this book. I found myself chugging through too quickly and intentionally slowed myself down so I could enjoy the book even more. The characters were excellent. The ‘villain’ was creepy. I loved that you weren’t supposed to feel bad for characters or that they all weren’t necessarily likable.
I’m not even sure what to say (and maybe this is why you first reflecton your thoughts after finishing a book CMAC). This book has sisters/navigating, a sibling relationship, has ghosts, killers, has cops and has romance. Such an excellent read and I really enjoyed every page and turn of this story.
The only criticism I think I have, is the title of the book is slightly misleading as I thought it would be more about ‘cases’ in the Book of Cold Cases. It really focuses on only one ‘case’. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t change anything about the subject of the book or way the book was written. So well done. Would the title, Lady Killer be better? Or does the title, although slightly misleading, make you pick up the book and that’s the point of a good title. Who knows. It worked for me and I enjoyed every page of the book.
This book is an easy ‘I recommend’ and five stars for me.
