I thought maybe this author would blow me away but like a previous book I’ve read of hers, it fell flat. The book isn’t bad, necessarily. I read it and enjoy reading it.
The thing is, all the twists and turns… all the times I thought it’s obviously so-and-so… it falls flat in the end. I really thought while reading that this would be different than the other book I’ve read The Couple Next Door but she doesn’t know how to give you that ending ‘wow’ factor that leaves the book sitting in your brain for a couple days after. And finally, there were 2 mistakes missed by editors. I secretly love finding these… like little easter eggs.
Let’s talk about the good – because the book was good, until I finished it. The flipping of characters was excellent. I loved how the author executed it. The way she bolded the first few words when we were switching perspective and kept some updates short and sweet. It’s always hard when multiple characters are experiencing the same thing and the author did a good job of not repeating events through each character. Sometimes you can’t help it … but overall I wasn’t annoyed (and I get easily annoyed with these things).
The story was good, pulled me along and I found myself being unable to put the book down. I was slightly obsessed and wanted to get to the end to find out ‘who-dun-it’. Again, just the dud of the ending brought me down. It puts a damper on the whole book.
Overall – I’d still recommend this book.
