First off, I want to comment on… what can you really say about someone else’s story? This is Jennette’s real account on her personal life. It’s her opinion and she deserves every right to her opinion and how can anyone say she is wrong.
Getting that out of the way – Jennette’s writing is powerful. The book feels organized, balanced with humor and seriousness. It feels factual but also sometimes so unbelievable you feel like you are reading fiction.
I feel weird saying this, but I enjoyed this book. It’s a serious book. It’s real life. It’s what goes on behind the scenes that as consumers of these shows, movies and media we take for granted. I appreciate the these moments maybe a bit more as I was a consumer of iCarly. I’m Glad My Mom Died opened my eyes to the world beyond the screen.
What it comes down to, this is a good book. If you didn’t watch iCarly, you could still appreciate this book. Very brave of Jennette to share her experiences so openly. On the flip side, she also shared her experiences without namedropping and bashing others. I’m sure in this story there were a few ‘adults’ that might have been able to step up and instead of laying the blame on them.
Overall, this book creates the perfect harmony of a story about a tragic, abusive upbringing balanced with dry humor. The reader will be entertained, although saddened. I must say, the audio book delivered by Jennette herself was AMAZING. Well written and well said Jennette.
