First of all, this is exactly what I was expecting when I heard McConaughey wrote a book. For those who are surprised and not expecting what ‘Greenlights’ is … I mean………………………… you have heard of Matthew McConaughey, right? He represents himself very well out in the world and this is a huge reflection of himself. It was very interesting seeing, from his point of view, how he became who he is. We are all unique, but people should be able to admit Matthew is a little extra unique. (ha)
Greenlights was entertaining and did not put Matthew in the greatest light sometimes. Which, I appreciate. I want autobiographies to be as real as possible and he showed up. It was funny, depressing and uplifting. He didn’t hold back (even when maybe he should have.)
The overall feel of the book is it left me … neutral. Honestly, I felt such a high of optimism and then such a low of we are all doomed that I’m left neutral. I’m also left feeling like, once again it was proven that it happens to all of us. Matthew is a little unique because he can take a 6 month or multi year adventure to find himself while the rest of us need that weekly paycheck to get by…
Anyways, I’m babbling. I didn’t come to this book to have him fix my life. I came to be entertained and he did that. Excellent entertainment… if not, oddly uncomfortable.
