I can’t believe it took me so long to read this. On top of that, I’m upset that I read this via kindle instead of buying and purchasing this as a physical book.
This was a beautiful, whimsical, fairytale and I’m not sure if it was AMAZING or if I hadn’t read a fairytale in a long time. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved reading about Weylyn and the magical powers he was embarrassed to possess. The story itself was overall, standing back, absolutely captivating.
Yet…. yet, there is a yet.
I struggled to get into the book. I felt whiplashed multiple times with the character changes. The back and forth between ‘present’ and the past was not done seamlessly. I kept forgetting who Roarke was most of the time, only to get a few pages in and remember. I wish the author would have removed him(?), or made him more substantial character. The overall organization of the book was quite poor. There is so much good here that it is upsetting that something so silly organization ‘messed’ that up.
I will say, I did enjoy never quite knowing what Weylyn was thinking. It was nice reading about this mysterious boy/man through other’s eyes.
Yet, there were too many characters and they all had the same voice.
YET … (yes, I have another yet for you) I am stepping away from this book with all the good, butterfly feelings I would hope a true fairytalewould give you. So I’m doing 5 stars with a few ‘yets’ attached, because overall the book is really, really wonderful. Or, should I use the ‘m’ word and say… ‘magical’?
