A MOVEABLE FEAST BY ERNEST HEMINGWAY

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I have a goal of reading all of Ernest Hemingway‘s stories. I am starting out slow and working through the back catalog with ease and in a relaxed manner. I’ve read a few others of his books and I would recommend to readers that they at least read The Sun Also Rises, and maybe A Farewell To Arms. This is a beautiful book, it reads like someone’s diary. Which played on top of The Sun Also Rises. It’s like a behind the scenes of his past books. Speaking of which, the history behind him writing all his books is almost as intriguing as the books themselves.

Hemingway isn’t a poetic writer. He isn’t someone that will make him melt in your seat. He is a realist. I think that’s what I most love about him. There is no bullshit, this is what happened, this is what was said, and this is what was done. It’s a true life glimpse into this 1920s artist world that for some reason we all are so focused and interested in. Another reviewer mentioned it already, so I won’t take credit as my own original idea… but they hit on the head what had been tickling in my brain. Hemingway puts onto paper a glimpse into a world where you can eat out, drink liters of wine everyday and still considered poor. To have a cook/personal chef and no indoor/private plumbing – yet you are still poor. It’s an inconceivable thought now a days. (ha)

Overall, if you enjoy Hemingway, if you’ve read previous books of his, I believe you will absolutely adore this one. It’s short enough that you could finish one sitting. The way I attacked the book was by reading a chapter, or two, every morning. I really wanted to spread out the joy. Excellent, a classic, and simply Hemingway.
