A FATAL LIE (INSPECTOR IAN RUTLEDGE, #23) BY: CHARLES TODD

,

Rating: 4 out of 5.

My first Rutledge book!

This was an okay book … I enjoyed that I was able to pick up book #23 and not feel like I was missing anything by not reading books 1-22. I also really enjoy books set in the past. No quick texting or cameras, etc. The inspector has to go back and forth to talk to witnesses.

Although that was ‘fun’ detective work, it also (as other reviewers stated) started bogging down the stories. Rutledge was going back and forth to the same place. I never mind a book full of characters, but some of the characters lied way too much and it felt exhausting. I didn’t care what the character was saying anymore because I assumed they were just lying.

Overall, I still gave it 4 stars because the author and the character was new to me. I’d be interested in reading earlier books and get to know this … Rutledge … character a bit more!
