A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES BY SARAH J. MAAS

,

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I was very hesitant to hop on this ‘trend’ that this book seemed to create for itself. I’m not sure what happened but I started seeing the following that ‘Twilight’ and ’50 Shades of Grey’ started getting and I’m just sitting here wondering when they are going to make this a movie. I’m a big believer in, you can’t knock it if you didnt even bother to read it. So here I am, reading it and …. SPOILER, I LOVED IT.
I get why this became a trending book. First off, let’s start with the characters.

They are so well done. They are magical (literally, some can do magic), all unique, all had their own voices and I felt they really stayed true to who they were. Although I sometimes questioned Freye’s thoughts and actions…
Anyways – an excellent world building book. I was confused for most of the time, as other reviewers stated, but I liked the confusion. I liked being confused as it added a bit of mystery and thrill for me. I didn’t know what was going on and it made me want to pick up the book and keep reading to hopefully find out. You get more of the story (the real story) about 3/4 of the way … so if you are confused, hang in there.. she’ll give you the whole Big Bang soon.
There are hot and steamy parts – and they were just as hot and steamy as you would expect. Which is extra surprising because you are picturing a man with a mask the whole time … she can’t even see his face. How un-shallow of her! (ha)

Really – I have nothing bad to say about this book.
I will end with … I have no desire to pick up the next book. The weird, lovers triangle I can see the author set up does not interest me. The ‘change’ that happened (I won’t spoil) … also, does not interest me. The way the book ended did not push me forward at all… really… it made me feel like, okay! I’m good!
So a solid five stars from me for this first book within a very large series that has already been written. Yet, also with a warning that it wasn’t ‘good enough’ … it didn’t ‘drive me enough’ to make me pick up the next book in the series. Sure, I’ll admit, I went on Amazon, added it to me cart and pondered; but as I write this review and reflect on my thoughts of finishing … I know for sure, I’m good. I feel at peace with my decision to let this series go to the ‘unattempted’ pile.
