I’ll give this book a solid 3.5, rounded up to 4. I’m being kind here. There was a lot in this book that bothered me for some reason.
The book felt very centered around the #MeToo movement and believing women when they said they have been abused. Yet, the characters used to represent this, were not done well.
Claire, had a position where she was able to access 40k. An amount of money most women would never even dream of being able to hold.
Eva, was a criminal who threw away her life for a boy when she was given every opportunity to be successful. Instead of leaning on another man to get her foot in the door in a life of crime. She could have gone back to the orphanage where she grew up to give back her time or give back to the people that helped her get to where she got in life. She wasn’t being taken advantage of by men … she turned to a criminal lifestyle when she didn’t have to.
So, good premise, good story, but don’t make it something it’s not. Maybe I’m just in a mood today, but if you are going to take a stand on something, do it well.
In the end, it was an exciting book. I read it quickly. So take that for what you will.
