Into the Wild the book is a lengthy expose on the article that the author wrote earlier. The article was just the tip of the iceberg for Krakauer and I believe he got obsessed and couldn’t stop with just the article. He’s expanded on his thoughts, other’s stories and some clarifications he wanted to make since the article, that went viral, was published.
This is my second reading and I appreciate the story, the look into Chris mind and what happens when you aren’t prepared. There are many versions of ‘Chris’ out there in this world. They are making YouTube videos, posting on social media but for Chris, it was preaching to fellow workers and writing on sides of buses. It is so easy to watch a video online and say ‘I could do this’ but Chris is a great example of be adventurous, but prepared. Again, we have it a bit easier now a days with internet – but I think this is still a great tale of caution.
There is a lot of hopping around the story, the ending came too quick and didn’t fulfill my curiosity, as I impatiently read through stories that had nothing to do with Chris. Krakauer really milked the story to make a’novel’.
Overall, I still enjoyed this read. I read it while ‘surviving’ out in the wild on an offered solo adventure, so it was a nice touch.
