Listen, I feel bad about the 3 stars.. but hear me out.
I didn’t know this was going to be a planned 3 part series. If so, I’m not sure how interested I would be in investing my time in this series when I picked up the first book. But … here I am and once I start a series, I must finish it.
The first book was pretty darn good. I enjoyed it. I wasn’t WOW-ed, but I was happy. This second book is so …. ‘filler’-ish. It was boring. The writing was horrible. I dabble in writing and this is classic filler-type writing. Too much time spent in the heads of the characters going through every thought they’d ever have and then another huge paragraph thinking the answers to the questions in the first ramblings of thoughts. It’s a waste of the reader’s time and straight filler. (This is how I write and I get annoyed at myself for writing books like this… so this style might just be my own pet peeve.)
You don’t have to think much in this book. There aren’t a lot of WOW moments. There isn’t a lot of anything. This book is basically getting you to the big finale of the third book. ** Which I will read. ** I’m hoping Hilderbrand can bring the heat for the third book and really prove that this series was worth it (for those of us with lower stars on this book that accidentally started this series).
I also agree with other reviewers who said, this in no way can be a stand alone book. And if you try to read just this book, you will be disappointed. Start with the first, if you like that, go on to the second (this book) and prepare yourself for the third. 🙂
Good luck all!
