I should start off by saying I did NOT read the first book in the sequel and I think I missed out because of it. I also believe with sequels authors should try to play a mini bit of catch up for those who haven’t read the previous book can still enjoy the book they picked up.
This book felt … messy. The relationships weren’t consistent. The readers are supposed to be led astray by the character’s lies but it really just left me untrusting of the AUTHOR, rather than the CHARACTERS.
I spent 50% of the time confused. I didn’t understand powers, I didn’t understand the world I was thrust into from the very first page. IT starts off in the middle of all the action, which was exciting. I dove in with it expecting to have questions answered once the things slowed down. This never happened. I spent most of the book wondering when the author would let me know what was going on.
In the end, the book isn’t bad. It has some really good parts. It has an interesting, unique idea. There are some deep ideas here they just aren’t presented well. I wouldn’t recommend, but I wouldn’t tell you to not pick it up.
