THE MYSTERY AT THE END OF WILLOW STREET BY JANIS HENNESSEY

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I am not a kid (I know surprise) but I did choose to read this book when I received a free copy through a giveaway. Here are my thoughts as an adult reading this book and answering the question of, would I give this to ‘my’ kid or a kid.
I’m not sure I would? This was a pretty good book, when its comes down to it. I enjoyed the ghosts, the problem solving and I loved the illustrations.

My ‘issue’ with this book comes down to the kids were worrying too much about the grown up problems. The grown ups in the book didn’t seem to have a clue what to do and the kids seemed to be coming up with solutions and solving the problems. The grown ups weren’t stepping up and putting their children in some risky situations. Especially the one that had to lie where he lived. I don’t think we should be putting that kind of pressure on kids.

Kids should be kids and this book made it ‘okay’ and almost encouraged kids to stress about their living situation and their parents’s happiness. It gives the impression that they should worry about where their homeless friend can live, where a friend can move, getting grown ups jobs and etc. It bothered me more than it probably should, but it took away a lot from the book.
