A long winded book about a girl finding her ground.
“A love triangle between two college friends and a charismatic professor alters the lives …” *Possible SPOILER* No. I’m going to say that isn’t true. One of the corners of the triangle has a handful of pages where she even interacts with the professor. *End – SPOILER*
Honestly – this book just wasn’t the best. It’s really a coming of age story for Fiona. All the other characters were just support for what Fiona wasn’t there to tell the reader herself, but ultimately helped push her here and there.
The writing wasn’t the best. In the beginning I kept getting distracted about how many times the author said how Fiona’s sister ‘unexpectedly died’. It’s like, I GET IT… move on.
The amount of words to describe outfits the characters were wearing was exhausting.
I think Fiona (?) mentioned how she hated the way Hemingway wrote, which I assume is really how the author feels because this book is very opposite of the way Hemingway writes. As someone who enjoys Hemingway’s short and direct writing style I, as the reader, conflicted with the author’s style of writing.
I think the book didn’t fit for me. I don’t think it’s necessarily bad for everyone. For this reason I gave it three stars.
