I’m giving this book 3 stars, but that is me being really nice. Huge Sager fan and I’m honestly baffled. This just simply isn’t that good. I think a good group of us readers are heartbroken as we really, really want to like anything Sager puts out. 
      What’s wrong with the book? Well, the first 80% of it is just circle thinking from an unreliable main character. Also, doesn’t help that I’m sure a lot of us aren’t going to relate to Casey at all. So not only do I know she’s an unreliable drunk, but I don’t care about her. 

The unreliability also comes from a place of the MC straight lying to the reader. I hate it when authors do that. You didn’t ‘trick’ us … you straight lied to us. Then threw in a chapter that went, ‘hey! just kidding!’ It’s not clever, it’s just annoying and waste of my time. 
      The book finally picks up in the last 20% where the reader is just thrown into a super natural world that was kind of hinted in the beginning. It does come way out of left field and just as you are getting into it – it’s over and we are typing up all the lose ends. Everyone comes together, sings Christmas carols (not literally) and the book ends. It’s idiotic. 
      I read 80% of the book just to go on a couple uneventful wild chapters and the author goes, that’s it! A waste. This book is sadly a bomb. I do feel like the opening sentence hinted at the pending bomb… but I didn’t want to believe it. There was no Sager magic here…. So no, I cannot recommend this book even with my generous three stars. I will recommend Sager’s previous books and will ask that any future books, we all give him a chance. Not ready to give up on you yet Sager!
