I always think that I struggle with Hilderbrand book but she might be top 5 authors I have read and purchased books for… so take that little doubter in my mind.
This was a VERY interesting read. Interesting… what an interesting word. What does that even mean? Everything I liked about the book, I also disliked.
I liked the large cast as it was fun keeping track of the many storylines. Due to the sheer amount of storylines in the book there was less filler that the author had to make up to make a story into a novel (at least that’s my view). The storylines were quick, entertaining and each had their own little twist.
I also disliked the amount of storylines. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of. We could have dropped 2 or 3 of the MCs and still had a quite lovely book. Also having 2 characters with 1 name was VERY confusing… even thought ‘Fast Eddie’ didn’t show up in the book often it was distracting having to pause and think, wait… what is ‘Sweet Edie’ doing?
The ghost was a fun twist and gave the story an element of mystery and a nice POV from above. Grace added a little comedy to an otherwise ‘serious’ story.
I also felt Grace was totally unnecessary. Sometimes Grace annoyed me. I will admit, sometimes I even skimmed some of Grace’s POV because I wanted to get back to the ‘good stuff’.
Overall, I reached for the story more often than not. I was intrigued with the large list of MCs. They were all unique and different enough that it felt like real people. Every character has their own, unique story. The individual stories aren’t tossed at the reader, but slowly fed to not overwhelm. It was extremely clever and very well done. Shows the talent Hilderbrand has, as I don’t think a lot of authors could successfully pull that off. I really, really love that at the end the author added her own ‘Blue Book’. Super cute addition, especially as the author has made a name for herself on her little island. Four stars and a recommendationfrom me.
