I’m torn what I should rate it! 

I’d like to start off by saying ‘The Secret History” is one of my favorite books. That is the book that made me put Donna Tartt on a pedestal. When I saw some of the reviews before reading coming out as negative I was blown away. How? These people must be nuts!

They aren’t, unfortunately. People have already said it before and they hit the nail on the head. This book is long for no reason. She adds description to unnecessary moments. Throughout the book you might find yourself wondering, what’s the point here? And when you get to the end, you might think to yourself… wow, how much of my life have I wasted on this?

It’s a disappointing ending, for a disappointing story.

I will also say that when you have talent, you have talent. Donna Tartt is a talented writer. I think this is just a pinch of a flub. This will make an EXCELLENT movie (which they are doing).

I wouldn’t say don’t bother reading this book.. I would just say, lower your expectations before reading.
