THE BEST OF FRIENDS BY: LUCINDA BERRY

Rating: 1 out of 5.

This was a tough one for me! Overall I liked it… it was an interesting idea. Pretty messed up, in all the right ways. Exactly what you are looking for  when it comes to a thriller.
I chugged through this book and found the premise so interesting I sometimes had a hard time putting it down.

The ‘issues’ were the overall story just felt very disorganized. I constantly felt pulled here and there. The flow of transitioning to different characters wasn’t smooth at all. On the other hand, maybe that’s what the author was going for. The chaos, the jerking from character to character. Who knows – it didn’t work for me.
Another thing that threw me off was the amount of characters. I more than often was confused on which ‘mom’ I was on and which kid was related to said mom. I kept forgetting who was in what state – ugh. I’m normally very good at a full cast of complicated characters. Maybe that says I never really cared about the characters/the story? Either way, it was distracting to the story. I was tempted to write down the mom name, with the family listed and the state of her son just to keep everyone straight.
I would still recommend this book. Like I mentioned, it was a really good premise. All the messed up parts that keeps us going back to the thriller genre was there. The sloppiness of the story structure is the reason for the dropped stars.
