To sum it all up on the first line, this book was’meh’. I liked what they tried to do here, but just didn’t have any spunk that made me ‘get into the story’. The storyline, the subject matter, the ‘thrill’ didn’t come together to make me want to read it. I honestly started dreading having to pick up the book to finish.
But! – not because it was bad…
One issue, was there were too many lyrics and the lyrics didn’t interest me. It’s like we were trying to convey that Rose was a lyrical genius, but also trying to balance with the suspenseful story. It didn’t jive.
Not interesting enough characters and the dialogue felt more unrealistic that real at times. Making it hard to enjoy the conversations readers get to listen in on.
And finally, I wish there was an author’s note… I kept playing around in the e-book thinking I missed it. I want to know more about the process of writing the book, as let’s be real… that’s what intrigued me about the book. Did Dolly write, James edit? Did Dolly come up with the ideas and James strung them all together…
I picked up this book purely because of Dolly Parton’s name on the cover and I wish I was able to know more.
