This is a tough one for me…
I enjoyed the book. I’m a sucker for a good (even bad) thriller. I seem to like the ride of the thrill whether I expect what is coming or not. This ‘thriller’ or ‘who-dun-it’ – whatever you want to call it – was a SLOW BURN. Everything felt very dragged out.
I had a feeling what was going on and was not surprised when I was right, very early on in the book. This made the ‘big’ ending a very … low impact affect. The author tried to give clues as to what was going on, but the clues were ‘too good’ and ‘too obvious’.
There is also this small farm vs big farm fight going on. I understand adding it in for the conflict but the author dove pretty deep into the inner workings of the issue. I wasn’t sure if it was just added drama/added details to the character’s lives or if the author was trying to say something and make a stand against big farming? I was really confused if I wasn’t reading between the lines or if I was reading too much inbetween the lines and adding conflict where there wasn’t any. Honestly, it was very distracting. (ha)
My rating may seem conflicting when I say, I really didn’t hate it. Yet, I also finished this awhile ago and I really don’t remember much about it. Other than I was confused what the author was (or was not) trying to get across to me.
